Best VPN for Israel in 2024: stay safe and secure

Best VPN for Israel

In Israel, a VPN (Virtual Private Network) is more than just a handy tool – it's a critical safeguard for online security. With rising concerns about cyberattacks, government surveillance, and IP-based threats, online users need strong digital security. A quality VPN encrypts your internet traffic and hides your IP address, keeping your data safe. Here's how it works: a VPN reroutes your internet traffic through an encrypted tunnel, and then it reaches a server in a different location. As a result, you not only get a local IP address in that area, but your data also remains secure from interception. An Israel VPN also lets you get around different geo-restrictions, allowing access to content that may be blocked in your region. For Israeli residents abroad – you'll also be able to stream Israeli TV without any issues.

After testing 14 different VPNs, NordVPN stood out as the best VPN for Israel. Its fast global servers and strong security measures make it simple to unblock websites and get an Israel IP address in just a few clicks. Other VPNs, such as Surfshark, PrivateVPN, ProtonVPN, and CyberGhost, also performed well in testing. They offer great speeds, reliable connections, and solid security, ensuring you stay safe while using these Israel VPNs.

Top 5 VPNs for Israel: shortlist

Yes, VPNs are completely legal in Israel, as long as they're used for legitimate purposes. A VPN is a valuable addition to your privacy toolkit: it encrypts your data and masks your IP address. This keeps you safe from potential government surveillance and hackers. VPNs also help bypass geo-blocks, so you can access content from all around the globe. For Israeli residents, this makes browsing safer, while foreign visitors can protect their data on public WiFi and access services from their home country. While all VPNs may seem similar at first glance, it's important to look for the ones offering high-level encryption like AES-256, a no-logs policy, and multiple server locations for maximum security.

NordVPN is the best overall VPN for Israel in 2024, combining top-tier security and exceptional speeds. Its unique NordLynx connection protocol ensures high speeds without compromising security, making it ideal for streaming and safe browsing.

Servers: NordVPN’s server network is extensive, with 7000+ servers across 118+ countries, including 20+ physical servers in Israel. I’ve found that this broad network reduces server overcrowding, which is key for minimizing latency. This setup provides smooth streaming and gaming experiences, as well as reliable access to local content abroad.

Security and privacy: NordVPN uses AES-256 encryption, which keeps your data safe by encrypting it to a high standard. This makes it almost impossible for anyone to intercept or decipher your information. I really like their Threat Protection Pro feature. It's a simple antivirus tool that adds an extra layer of security by blocking malware and trackers. Plus, the automatic kill switch ensures that if the VPN connection drops unexpectedly, your internet access is cut off to prevent any accidental data exposure. NordVPN also has an audited strict no-logs policy, meaning they don't store any of your browsing data, which is great for privacy in Israel.

Performance: over the course of a few weeks, I tested NordVPN extensively for streaming and torrenting. It did a great job of unblocking streaming services like Netflix, BBC iPlayer, and local Israeli TV platforms. I also ran some speed tests while connected to different regions. Using their NordLynx protocol, the average download speeds were an impressive 467 Mbps, while the average upload speeds were 379 Mbps. These speeds meant I could stream Israel TV in Ultra HD and download large files without any hiccups, which gave me a great viewing and browsing experience. Plus, this provider makes sure you can safely torrent with a SOCKS5 proxy and split tunneling.

Compatibility: NordVPN allows 10 simultaneous connections and works with a wide range of devices, including Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Linux, routers, and more. I was able to easily install it on my Windows, Android, and macOS devices without any issues.

Price and customer support: you can get NordVPN for Israel for just $2.99/month with a special coupon code. Additionally, there’s also a 7-day free trial and 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can try the service risk-free. If you run into any problems, their 24/7 live chat and email support is quick to respond. I found their support team helpful when I had questions, and they also address a lot of common issues in their extensive online support center.

If you're looking for a security-focused Israel VPN, Surfshark is a great option, especially if you have multiple devices. It offers unlimited simultaneous connections, a user-friendly app packed with security features, and servers in Israel that help you bypass restrictions, protect against government surveillance, and safeguard your online identity and privacy.

Servers: Surfshark has a big fleet of 3200+ servers in 100+ locations, including options in Israel. While the exact number of Israeli servers isn’t disclosed, I easily connected to them and accessed Israeli content abroad without any issues. This flexibility makes Surfshark a convenient choice for streaming and secure browsing from different locations.

Security and privacy: like NordVPN, Surfshark uses AES-256 encryption, which is the industry standard for keeping data secure. This means that your online activities in Israel will stay private and protected from prying eyes. I really appreciate Surfshark's strong commitment to user protection. This is clear from features like the automatic kill switch, which disconnects your internet if the VPN connection drops, and DNS leak protection, which stops your DNS queries from being exposed. They don't keep any records of your online activities because of their strict no-logs policy. What's more, the MultiHop feature routes your traffic through two servers instead of one, adding another layer of encryption and making it much harder for anyone to trace your online movements.

Performance: during my last round of testing, I used Surfshark for both streaming and torrenting. I managed to unlock all the platforms I tried, including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+. I also noticed that Surfshark's speeds were comparable to NordVPN's, with average download speeds of 461 Mbps and upload speeds of 300 Mbps. Even when connected to servers in Israel, I never had any slowdowns, and streaming was smooth without any buffering. On top of that, this VPN allows all P2P activities. Those who favor torrenting will like the split tunneling (Bypasser) feature.

Compatibility: with unlimited simultaneous connections, Surfshark is compatible with Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux, smart TVs, and even gaming consoles. Installation was a breeze on my Windows and Firestick devices, and the interface was simple and intuitive. I especially appreciated being able to protect all my devices without worrying about connection limits.

Price and customer support: If you're looking for an affordable Israel VPN, Surfshark’s pricing starts at $2.19/month, and you can save a pretty penny using a coupon code. Besides, if you decide that it’s not for you, you can get a full refund within 30 days. I found Surfshark’s customer support responsive and helpful; they offer assistance via 24/7 live chat and email, so don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or run into any issues.

PrivateVPN is a budget-friendly option for Israel, delivering reliable performance despite its smaller server network. I found it maintains steady speeds for streaming, making it a strong choice for cost-conscious users.

Servers: PrivateVPN offers 200+ servers in 63+ locations, including one in Israel. While the server number is smaller than some competitors, I was impressed with the consistent performance on these servers. However, unlike NordVPN, PrivateVPN does not specify whether these servers are physical or virtual, which may affect reliability in some cases.

Security and privacy: PrivateVPN also uses AES-256 encryption, keeping your data safe and secure from prying eyes. It supports multiple connection protocols, such as OpenVPN, WireGuard, and IKEv2. To keep you safe, PrivateVPN comes with an automatic kill switch that stops your internet connection if there's any disruption in the VPN connection. This way, you can rest assured that none of your data will get leaked by mistake. In my PrivateVPN testing, I did several leak tests, including while connected to PrivateVPN’s Israel region. I'm pleased to report that there were no IP or DNS leaks, which means my identity and location were kept completely secret.

Performance: I tested PrivateVPN for streaming and torrenting and was able to access streaming services like Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video. In my speed tests, I recorded average download speeds of 138 Mbps and upload speeds of 120 Mbps. While it's not the fastest VPN on the market, PrivateVPN delivered a satisfactory performance, allowing me to stream in HD without buffering. What's more, this VPN for Israel is great for torrenting because of the SOCKS5 proxy and port forwarding.

Compatibility: PrivateVPN works on various operating systems, including Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, Chrome OS, and routers. It allows you to connect up to X devices simultaneously, which is great if you have multiple gadgets to secure. I installed it on my Windows laptop and Android phone, and the process was straightforward and quick.

Price and customer support: PrivateVPN is quite affordable Israel VPN, and with a discount coupon, you can get a subscription for just $2.00/month. There's a 30-day money-back guarantee, letting you to test the service out without any risk. Proton VPN is a great option for those looking for a VPN with top-notch security for online activities in Israel. Its free version provides unlimited data and strong encryption – a rarity in the VPN market. However, free users have a limited server selection and no access to Israeli servers, which is something to consider.

Servers: out of 9200+ servers in 110+ locations, Proton VPN provides 14+ servers in Israel for paid users. These servers are physical, which ensures better security and reliability compared to virtual ones. While the free version doesn’t include Israeli servers, upgrading to a paid plan grants you access to them, letting you browse with an Israeli IP address and stream local content securely.

Security and privacy: Proton VPN uses AES-256 encryption to secure your data. In addition to using connection protocols like OpenVPN, WireGuard, and IKEv2, Proton VPN has developed its own Stealth protocol. Unlike NordVPN’s NordLynx protocol, which balances speed and security, the Stealth protocol focuses on evading detections, restrictions, and most firewalls. This makes it particularly effective for accessing Israeli websites and services. Plus, there’s a kill switch that halts your internet connection if the VPN disconnects unexpectedly, preventing any data leaks. Proton VPN has a Secure Core architecture, too. This means your traffic gets routed through multiple servers in privacy-friendly countries before it reaches its destination, which adds another layer of security on top. I love their strict no-logs policy and the fact that they're based in privacy-friendly Switzerland. To test its security, I connected to Proton VPN’s servers in Israel and ran several leak tests. I found no IP or DNS leaks, which proved that this VPN is effective at safeguarding my identity.

Performance: I’ve tested Proton VPN for streaming and torrenting on its Plus plan and bypassed the restrictions on platforms like Netflix, HBO Max, and Hulu. The speeds impressed me, with average download speeds of 439 Mbps and 300 Mbps for upload – almost on par with Surfshark and NordVPN. I also connected to its Israeli servers and successfully streamed local Israeli content without interruptions. With these speeds, I streamed HD content online and never faced any slowdowns or lag during my online activities. Plus, Proton VPN's split tunneling and port forwarding features make it a great choice for torrenting, offering flexibility and better performance, even when connected to Israeli servers.

Compatibility: Proton VPN allows up to 10 simultaneous connections on its paid plans and its open-source app is compatible with Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, and more. Installing it on my macOS and iOS devices was a breeze. I found the interface user-friendly, which made managing connections to both global and Israeli servers simple.

Price and customer support: with our special coupon codes, Proton VPN prices start at $3.59/month. Although the pricing’s slightly higher than some competitors, the advanced security features justify the cost. There’s a 30-day money-back guarantee, but it's prorated based on your usage. I was a bit disappointed that you cannot contact their live chat support without signing up for the service first. However, their email support was responsive and provided detailed answers to my questions.

Servers: CyberGhost’s network spans 11700+ servers in 100+ countries, including 49+ servers in Israel. These Israeli servers are physical, ensuring more stable and reliable connections. The high number of servers also means less overcrowding, resulting in smoother streaming and consistent browsing speeds.

Security and privacy: like the other VPNs on this list, CyberGhost uses industry-standard AES-256 encryption to secure your information even when connected to its servers in Israel. It also features an automatic kill switch, which immediately cuts off your internet connection if the VPN connection drops, so no data gets exposed. The DNS leak protection ensures that your DNS queries are not exposed, maintaining your anonymity online. CyberGhost also offers a content blocker that filters out malicious websites and ads, enhancing your overall online safety. Moreover, it has a strict no-logs policy, assuring that none of your browsing activity – whether connected to global or Israeli servers – is recorded or stored.

Performance: I tested CyberGhost VPN for streaming and easily accessed Netflix, BBC iPlayer, and Amazon Prime Video using their dedicated streaming servers. I also connected to its servers in Israel and successfully streamed local Israeli content without interruptions. In terms of speed, I calculated an average download speed of 206 Mbps and upload speed of 194 Mbps. While these speeds are a bit slower than what you'd get with NordVPN, Surfshark, or Proton VPN, they were more than enough for streaming HD content without any buffering issues. What's more, you can torrent easily with CyberGhost thanks to its specialized torrenting servers and handy options like split tunneling.

Compatibility: with CyberGhost, you can connect up to 7 devices at the same time. It’s compatible with Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Linux, and smart TVs. A quick message to the 24/7 live chat support resolved the issue promptly. Beyond that, the apps are intuitive and beginner-friendly, making it easy to secure all my devices.

Price and customer support: you can grab CyberGhost VPN for Israel for just $2.03/month using a coupon code, making it one of the more affordable VPN options. They also offer a generous 45-day money-back guarantee for plans longer than one month, which is longer than most competitors. When I couldn't find what I was looking for in their help center, I reached out to support via live chat, who were quick to respond and really eager to help. They also helped me resolve the installation issue I had previously encountered.

Can I use a free VPN for Israel?

Yes, you can technically use a free VPN for Israel, but it's not recommended. There are some significant drawbacks to using a free VPN, including slower speeds, data caps, limited servers, and weaker security measures. Also, nothing's ever truly free. Companies have to make money somehow to keep their service up and running. That means there's always a risk of these services misusing your private information. That said, my personal advice for anyone who is set on using a free VPN is to take a look at Proton VPN's free version. It has its limits, and sadly, there are no servers in Israel. Even so, it's still solid from a security point of view, thanks to its strict no-logs policy, AES-256 encryption, and secure VPN protocols. All things considered, it's still a great option for those looking to secure their traffic while in Israel.

Instead, a better option is to go with a premium VPN that offers either a free trial or a refund policy. Surfshark and NordVPN both provide free trials and a 30-day money-back guarantee, which gives you access to all the security features, fast servers, and reliable unblocking capabilities – features that free Israel VPNs generally lack.

VPN’s seem to have many different purposes and I’d imagine some of them depend on where you live. Someone in China might need it so they can access the free world while someone in Israel might just want to access TV shows they can’t normally get due to geo-blocking. I think it’s great that VPN’s can offer so much to people.

NordVPN is indeed the best VPN that can be found on the market ! You can do absolutely everything, it’s cheap (let’s be honest you cannot have a better deal for their quality of services) and it’s just super powerful ! No wonder it’s the number one on the list !

I want to be able to watch Netflix and keep up on my social media while travelling this summer so I’m looking for a reasonably priced VPN to use. I also want to be able to protect my data from people seeing me on whatever wireless network I’m connected to, such as airports, train stations, hotels etc. It sounds like NordVPN fits my requirements.

CyberGhost seems like a great VPN but the fact that it’s Israeli-owned might be a problem for some users. Even if it’s said to be a safe and secure VPN, it might not be the best option to use it in Israel. NordVPN seems to be a better choice as it’s based in Panama.

It’s no surprise that NordVPN would be your best choice for a VPN in Israel. In my opinion they have one of the best customer services ever. They really take care of their customers, as anyone that has been with them for years will agree. With a 30-day money-back guarantee, there’s no reason not to try their service out.
