Unlike NordVPN, Surfshark VPN isn’t widely praised within the general consensus. This isn’t an indication of quality, however – it just hasn’t had time to build as strong a reputation!

Surfshark is a relatively new VPN provider, but its developers definitely have their head in the game. While price is often an indicator of quality, Surfshark surprises with its advanced technology, making you wonder how on earth it can offer so much for so little.

To begin with, Surfshark’s encryption cipher holds the edge over most of the industry – including NordVPN. The one it uses, AES-256-GCM, encrypts data much more quickly than the standard AES-256-CBC cipher, and it doesn’t squander an ounce of security in the process.

Faster encryption leads to faster speeds, and this certainly aids Surfshark where its relatively restricted server fleet holds it back. Alas, users in Greece need not worry, as Surfshark has servers in Athens as well as in neighboring Bulgaria and Albania.

Surfshark also benefits from its registry in a territory where the Fourteen Eyes alliance holds no jurisdiction. The British Virgin Islands, like Panama, also have no data retention laws, meaning that Surfshark can legally avoid storing any form of browser data on its servers.

Nevertheless, a VPN provider is nothing if it cannot offer decent connection speeds, so if you’re after the strongest server connections available on the market right now, you need to look no further than Astrill VPN.

Astrill’s servers are spread over sixty-four countries which, while it lacks the overall server count, is a greater reach than what NordVPN offers.

Is it safe to use a VPN in Greece?

Using a VPN in Greece is perfectly legal, but users ought to beware that libel, slander, and defamation prosecutions can bring hefty fines or imprisonment.

We do not condone illegal activity, and while using a VPN is not itself a criminal act in Greece, using a VPN to break the law is still breaking the law.

However, the Greek constitution ostensibly stands by freedom of speech, and defamation lawsuits can only be enforced by a complainant.

The benefits of using a free VPN start and end with the obvious: they’re free.
