Best VPN for Seychelles in 2024

Even in the paradisiacal Seychelles islands, the danger of surveillance remains ever-present. A virtual private network (VPN) is one of the easiest and safest ways to prevent this from happening – and we’re here to help you find the best VPN for Seychelles.

Our list of the best VPN for Seychelles contains five options that have been handpicked based on the following criteria, all of which will improve your online experience in Seychelles:

  • VPN security. Does it prevent Seychellois surveillance bodies from tracking your activity?
  • Reliability against firewalls. Can it bypass political content restrictions implemented by the Seychellois government?
  • Entertainment. Can it bypass geo-restrictions that prevent international media from being accessed in Seychelles (i.e. Netflix)?
  • Price. Does it offer great value for money?
  • Performance. How much will it affect your base internet connection?

NordVPN is a great choice for best VPN for Seychelles. This service uses the AES-256-CBC encryption cipher to shroud your channel in a firewall that simply cannot be breached through brute force attacks. As well as this, NordVPN also has a kill switch, protecting your information in the event of unexpected connection drops.

NordVPN also supports some of the best protocols available: OpenVPN, IKEv2 (best for mobile), and even WireGuard.

One advantage NordVPN has over its competition is a no-logs policy verified by an independent auditor. Its success in this area is made possible through its registry in Panama which, as with Seychelles, has no data retention laws.

NordVPN has over 7000+ servers across 118 countries, which is one of the most impressive networks on the market.  As such, NordVPN can easily provide connections to servers that will bypass Seychellois geo-blocks and, most importantly, Seychellois-censored content.

The VPN offers great overall performance that are more than enough for streaming or torrenting.

Surfshark VPN aims to be one of the most versatile VPN providers for the lowest price. It has 3200+ servers in 100+ countries - more than enough to offer great performance.

This service has a number of cutting edge features, such as Smart DNS, NoBorders Mode, and Camouflage Mode. These make it one of the best choices for accessing geo-restricted content - Smart DNS lets you get to use your full traffic speed (with no compromises for video stream quality) so it feels as if you're connected directly.

Surfshark also boasts exceptional security and privacy measures, which are further solidified by its registry in the British Virgin Islands (that have no data retention laws). Surfshark also has a kill switch, leak protection, and powerful anti-censorship features.

This makes it a good choice for torrenting, Kodi, and gaming. Even when compared to all VPNs on this list, Surfshark is great at unblocking Netflix and other streaming sites in Seychelles.

  • Independently-audited no-logs policy
  • Great for geo-unblocking
  • Long-term bandwidth protection
  • No anonymous payments

Golden Frog, the company behind VyprVPN, lays claim to a protocol named Chameleon. In many ways, Chameleon is like any other protocol, but the main difference is that it’s designed to prevent ISP blocking and throttling.

Woven into the VyprVPN design, Chameleon thus allows users to enjoy the provider’s relatively great speeds for longer. As such, it’s a great long-term plan for your download speeds no matter how much bandwidth you consume; perfect for those who work from home.

VyprVPN is also registered in Switzerland, one of the most privacy-friendly territories in Europe. There are no data retention laws to speak of, so the provider uses its integrity and employs a strict no-logs policy to keep your information totally private. (This has been verified through an independent audit.)

As well as this, VyprVPN uses the coveted AES-256-bit encryption cipher to protect the channel itself, as well as a kill switch to safeguard your data if the channel drops.

Although it may have fewer servers than most, VyprVPN is dedicated to getting active servers in less-represented places. As such, Seychellois users will benefit from servers based in the Maldives capital of Malé, which is significantly closer to Seychelles than what is usually offered.

These smartly-placed servers also have the added benefit of providing access to geo-restricted content beyond the usual North American and Western European stuff.

This is great news for anyone visiting Seychelles from elsewhere – after all, it isn’t just English and American people who take visits abroad, so the ability for other demographics to keep up with their favorite TV shows from back home could be a great USP for VyprVPN.

Indeed, there are certain drawbacks with VyprVPN, namely the fact that there is no option to sign up anonymously. That shouldn’t be too much of an issue for Seychellois users, however, because the territory holds no laws against using a VPN.

But for less than four dollars per month, VyprVPN is almost a steal for what it offers: a semi-specialized security service designed to keep your connection speeds going stronger for longer.

VPN servers are usually located in populous areas with high internet penetration, which usually includes North America, Western Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. Users rarely have access to servers in Sub-Saharan Africa, not to mention the sparsely-populated Indian Ocean.

Ivacy VPN is different. Many of its servers are located in the usual regions – Egypt and South Africa being the typical African hotspots – but it also caters to many oft-neglected locations such as Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya… and Seychelles.

Now, Ivacy VPN already holds a reputation as one of the fastest VPN providers on the market. With servers in Seychellois capital of Victoria, though, it has the edge on the vast majority of its competitors, given that proximity often strengthens server connection speeds.

This would mean very little without great privacy and security credentials to match. It’s fair to say that Ivacy VPN delivers on those fronts. First, however, a disclaimer is necessary.

Ivacy VPN is registered in Singapore, a known partner of the Fourteen Eyes alliance. This is a network of countries that have surveillance powers over their citizens and often pool their resources to help one another out.

While this sounds antithetical to the very concept of privacy, it’s worth noting that Ivacy’s no-logs policy holds up, and the provider is great at ensuring your DNS, IPv6, and WebRTC data is never leaked.

As such, any data requests made to Ivacy’s servers will be met with a lack of compliance, despite their legal obligation to fulfill those requests. There simply won’t be any relevant data on their servers, which means your personal data will remain hidden.

Furthermore, Ivacy VPN measures up to the standard of encryption set by NordVPN and ExpressVPN – it uses the same impenetrable 256-bit cipher as those providers do.

Users who find themselves frustrated by the lack of servers in or near the Indian Ocean should, therefore, give Ivacy a chance. With incredibly low prices and great security software, there’s nothing to lose by choosing the budget option in this instance.

  • Unbreakable encryption cipher
  • Bypasses geo-restrictions anywhere
  • Free trial (Windows and Mac)
  • macOS and iOS apps have less features

CyberGhost is one of the best selling VPNs out there and it's easy to see why. It combines a wide array of features with top of the line security.

We're confident that CyberGhost will protect almost any user with their bank-grade AES-256 encryption, ad blocker, malware-blocker, and DNS leak protection. All of this makes the VPN very secure, and Romania has a pretty good record on privacy as well. CyberGhost also operates a no-logs policy, which is clearly explained on their website. It means that your activity is completely anonymous: neither your ISP nor CyberGhost has any idea what you do, or when you do it.

CyberGhost is available for Windows, Mac OSX, Android, Linux, and extensions for Chrome and Firefox. The apps are intuitive and very simple to use so it's a great VPN for new users.

With their highly specialized servers it's easy to use CyberGhost for gaming, downloading torrents or unblocking media streaming websites.

The prices are comparable to those of the top-tier VPNs, and the refund policy is a 45-days money-back guarantee. You also get a 24-hour free trial and seven simultaneous connections per account.

ExpressVPN uses a strong encryption cipher, AES-256-CBC, which creates a firewall so dense that no hacker could break it from now until the end of time.

It also benefits from its registry in the British Virgin Islands. This idyllic Caribbean archipelago has no data retention laws to speak of, which means that if ExpressVPN chooses not to retain information on its servers, then it doesn’t have to.

As well as this, ExpressVPN has over 3000 servers in 105+ countries (including Seychelles’ mainland neighbor, Kenya). Such a widespread server fleet gives the user a great deal of geo-restricted territories to access.

ExpressVPN bypasses these geo-restrictions with ease. By disguising your IP address and pretending you’re in another country, the provider offers a backdoor into content that would not ordinarily be available in Seychelles.

Really, our only issue with ExpressVPN is that it’s priced quite highly, and it doesn’t even offer a free trial to soften the blow. As with many things in life, you quite often pay for.

Why use a VPN in Seychelles

The Seychellois ruling party (National Assembly) strives to maintain total authority over the archipelago. The main newspaper, Seychelles Nation, is government-backed, and heavy libel laws prevent cause independent newspapers to practice self-censorship.

As well as this, there have been claims that the government monitors online content throughout the country. This includes content posted on social media, internet chat rooms, blogs, and even emails.

Social media content can also be charged under the same libel laws that apply to political journalism. There have been deeply concerning reports in recent years of social media commentators being arrested without charge for their online content.

Even if your online content isn’t political in nature, then, it’s pretty scary to think that everything you post can be reviewed by the Seychellois government no matter where you post it.

It’s even scarier knowing you can face prosecution for this content, even if you’re merely in Seychelles on vacation and happen to post something unwittingly political.

The way a VPN provider can remedy these issues is by connecting you to a remote server, which is then encrypted so that nobody – hackers nor surveillance groups – can penetrate or monitor your browser activity.

This also helps to disguise your real IP address, thus safeguarding your personal information.

Is it safe to use a VPN in Seychelles?

Although the government actively monitors online content, the use of a VPN would prevent your browser activity from even showing up on their radar.

For argument’s sake, though, let’s say you do become noticed by the Seychellois government for whatever reason. Their surveillance team would very quickly pick up on the fact that you were using a VPN to shield your data traffic.

Their next step would be to investigate your VPN usage further. However, as Seychelles is not part of the Fourteen Eyes alliance, they have barely any legal ability to do so.

Furthermore, all of the VPN providers we’ve chosen have excellent privacy policies in place, meaning that the most anyone could learn is that you use a VPN and nothing else.

Seeing there are currently no laws forbidding the use of VPN in Seychelles, there is no risk involved for the user whatsoever.

Free VPN for Seychelles

A good VPN is expensive to run, so any VPN provider that is offered for free should be regarded with a certain amount of suspicion.

The companies behind free VPN can never really afford to provide a service on the level of, say, ExpressVPN. Quite often, there are lax security measures, limited servers, or slower connection speeds.

They often garner revenue by relentless advertising or, worse, selling your private data to third-party companies. Safe to say, this defeats the whole purpose of privacy in the first place.

However, there are some good options out there. Proton VPN is one; it’s registered in Switzerland, it uses top-tier encryption (including a kill switch), and it gives you unlimited bandwidth.

Windscribe is another paid-for service that offers a strong free version. Although it’s registered in Canada, it has an independently-audited no-logs policy as well as DNS/IPv6/WebRTC leak protection. With this, you get 10 GB of free bandwidth per month.

If you’re on a tight budget, then, these VPN providers are the best free options for users in Seychelles.

If you’re in Seychelles, which of these VPN have you used before? Did we miss any great VPN for Seychelles? Let us know in the comments below.

I’m planning to go there for a week and though I plan to enjoy my vacations without internet or my phone, I think I’ll use it at least once or twice and with a VPN on ! That was really helpful ! Thanks

I didn’t know things were so bad in Seychelles. I honestly didn’t. I’m not even sure I want to ever go there on vacation now. I don’t want to be put in a situation where I get arrested for posting something on social media. It’s absurd and I wish that wasn’t the case for any country but the truth is different.

If you are on a short visit to Seychelles and are not going to download large amount of media but going to use it only for routine web access, you can use free service like Windscribe. It would give required anonymity, privacy and Geo unblocking over public as well as private WiFi networks.

I was planning on getting ExpressVPN until I saw the prices. That’s clearly out of my budget. But thanks to your website I found out about Ivacy, and I love it! Now I can safely browse the Internet 🙂
