How to install Phoenix on Kodi

how to install phoenix on kodi

Note: As of mid-2017, the Phoenix add-on for Kodi has been shut down due to mounting legal pressure from copyright holders and anti-piracy groups. If you’re looking for a current and working Phoenix alternative, check out our installation guides for the popular Exodus, Fusion, and Covenant plug-ins.

Kodi is a popular free media player app for fans of movies, music, and TV shows who want to keep up with their favorite content at their own pace. Formerly made exclusively for Xbox, Kodi has garnered a vast reach and improved its accessibility. Now, it includes every major media platform, including Windows, Mac, and Amazon Fire Stick devices.

Used by different people for different media-related purposes, Kodi is one of the few apps that can be everything to everyone. Due to its unprecedented versatility, Kodi can offer its users anything from music videos to movies to live weather updates.

Even though Kodi does not include any content of its own and requires you to add your own, it does have a plug-in feature. This aspect invariably attracts both positive and negative attention from people as well as anti-piracy groups. Like many other streaming applications, Kodi faces continuous criticism for its third-party add-ons. These allow you to access content from both official and… less official… sources. One example of such Kodi add-ons used to be Phoenix.

Phoenix was one of the best and most successful Kodi plug-ins, by far. Despite not enjoying official support by Kodi, Phoenix was one of its most versatile third-party add-ons. Unfortunately, it has had its own fair share of controversies that have led it to an untimely demise. More on that below.

How to install Phoenix on Kodi

As of mid-2017, Phoenix has been taken down. You can no longer install Phoenix on Kodi media center. Tragic, we know. Still, it’s not the end of the world – there are plenty of other options to choose from.

Are there any Phoenix alternatives?

Formerly referred to as one of the best Kodi add-ons, Phoenix gave users access to a plethora of multimedia content. Using Phoenix on Kodi, you could stream anything from movies to live TV shows to sports events from anywhere in the world, including both the US and the UK.

The Phoenix add-on outperformed many of its alternatives with its Live TV streaming feature. It had a bunch of categories to choose from. These included Sports, For Kids, and Phoenix latest releases, all of which had high-quality content on offer.

While Phoenix for Kodi may have been one of the most groundbreaking and popular add-ons, there are currently many other working Phoenix alternatives. Many of these are also unofficial and may contain pirated content, which is considered illegal in many countries around the world (more on that later).

Also, new Kodi add-ons keep emerging on an almost-monthly basis. Which means you don’t have to worry about one shutting down and leaving you with nothing to watch. Below you’ll find some of the most popular Phoenix alternatives, both official and less so, used by millions of people for their vast amounts of available content:

  • Exodus: an add-on with a never-ending list of entertaining content.
  • CC Cloud TV: a high quality live TV streaming add-on.
  • Covenant: best for viewing international content.
  • Fox Sports Go: one of the best official add-ons for live sports streaming.
  • Popcornflix: a free and legal add-on for viewing countless movies.

Why you should use a VPN

In this day and age, even the most upstanding citizens among us should consider the possibility of stray copyright notices when using unofficial Kodi add-ons like Phoenix and its alternatives. A good number of third-party Kodi plug-ins tend to host vast amounts of pirated content. This may be grounds for legal pressure, even if you’re not streaming anything protected by copyright law.

Virtual private networks (VPNs) are used to browse the internet privately and without sharing any data with your ISP. By creating a secure “tunnel” connection between two systems or computers, VPNs prevent your information from being decrypted by another party. This allows you to surf the internet and stream Kodi content anonymously.

Of course, not all VPNs are equally suited for Kodi. While you should stay as far away from free VPNs as possible when using Kodi, there are numerous premium VPN apps to choose from. The best VPNs for Kodi are fast, reliable, highly secure, and have a strict no-logs policy. Also, be sure to choose a VPN that is compatible with a wide range of devices. After all, you might want to stream your favorite show not only on your Amazon Fire Stick but your smartphone as well.

As you said Phoenix is no longer available. Exodus Redux is best working alternative.

The USTVNow service is another Kodi add-on alternative to Phoenix. They offer a free plan with 5 channels or 23 channels for $29 per month. They currently offer a 3 month trial period for $19 per month. It’s a great way for Americans to watch live US TV when abroad. Or if you are a resident in another country, you can use a VPN.

I came here with the hope to find a way to install Phoenix back on Kodi, but what I find here is rather disappointing. However, thank you for the alternatives provided. Will look into it. Do update us if Phoenix is finally working back some day in the future.

A few months ago, I tried installing Phoenix on Kodi all to no avail; I never knew Phoenix had been taken down due to some controversies. This is really tragic; however, I am glad that there are plenty of other options to choose from.

Thanks for your opinion!
