How to Watch Young Sheldon Online

Young Sheldon

Just as popular as its crossover cousin, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon follows the story of 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper, living in Texas with his family. Sheldon has skipped four grades and is now in high school. Nine-year-old Sheldon is cleverly portrayed by Iain Armitage and supported by actors Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Montana Jordan, and Raegan Revord. Jim Parsons, who portrays the adult Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory, narrates the series.

The idea for the show came from Parsons, who is also one of the executive producers for Young Sheldon. Two seasons (32 episodes) of the show are currently available. Season two was launched on CBS in September 2018.

The series is set in 1989 when Sheldon goes to high school in the town of Medford. Nine-year-old Sheldon struggles to fit into mainstream society, as his family helps him navigate daily life. Sheldon's social challenges and superior intellectual skills set the scene for an array of comedic delights. In the series, Sheldon plays a bona fide child prodigy while Zoe Perry plays Mary Cooper, Sheldon's long-suffering mother. Lance Barber portrays George Cooper senior (Sheldon's dad). Montana Jordan plays George Cooper – Sheldon's (less intelligent) older brother, who dislikes him intensely. While Raegan Revord shines as Sheldon's twin sister. She's not as intelligent as Sheldon but notices things that nobody else does.

If you're trying to access Young Sheldon from outside the US on CBS, you may encounter blocked access. This is due to sites actively using geo-blocking and restricting access to individuals from certain countries.

What is Geo-blocking?

Geoblocking

Have you've ever tried to access a TV show from outside of the US and received an error message that sounded something like this: "This show is only available in the US or "Your location is not supported"?

This is called geo-blocking and it means that content isn't available where you live (or are currently visiting). Not only is this deeply disappointing, but unless you find a solution, you could miss an entire season of the show, just because you're on vacation or work detail outside of the US.

Each computer is identified by its IP Address. Your IP address is given to you when you sign up with your internet service provider. This means that your location (country and city) is listed. When visiting a website, the server notes this number and sends information to it. If the site has geo-blocking enabled, any country outside of a specified location or set of locations is barred from accessing content. Many sites only allow access to citizens within US borders. This will occur even if you usually pay for the service in the US.

What is the purpose of geo-blocking?

Content producers may choose to limit access to a particular location due to licensing restrictions, copyright laws, price, or in an effort to block illegal content.

Geo-blocking also helps divide up market segments. Amazon, Netflix, and Hulu make their content very specific. In this way, they can set different offers. This may mean (for example) that subscribers in the United States can watch Netflix but not watch BBC iPlayer content. It also ensures that some content can only be released in certain markets at a given time.

How to combat geo-blocking

The crux of geo-blocking is your knowing IP address so to get around it you will need to hide it. One way to do this is by using a proxy server. When you use a proxy server, the website assumes that the proxy server's IP address is yours and allows access based on the geographic location of the proxy server, instead of your actual location.

You can also get access by using a peer-to-peer network. In this case, traffic is routed through other nodes in the network by using their unutilized resources.

These two options will, unfortunately, still encounter security blocks. However, there is a better way to make sure you keep up to date on the latest episodes of Young Sheldon.

Avoiding VPN Scams

VPN products are on offer everywhere. However, if it can't unblock geo-restrictions, it's probably not worth its salt. Even some well-known providers won't get you past blocking restrictions.

When evaluating a VPN for accessibility for CBS streams, you should try to answer the following important questions:

  • Does it grant access to US servers?
  • Does the VPN offer unlimited bandwidth?
  • Does it have high-speed VPN servers?

You can easily unblock the second season of Young Sheldon Season 2 using one of the above-mentioned VPN providers, and you shouldn't experience any problems keeping abreast with the latest episodes.

Omg I looove The Big Bang Theory and Sheldon! I was so excited when I heard about this new show, and it’s so good! I also encountered some geo-blocking problems, but nothing a good VPN can’t fix.
