The developer of BitLord claims the torrent client is “The easiest torrent client for streaming and downloading.” The developer behind uTorrent claims the software is “A very tiny BitTorrent client.” We claim that using either of them without a reliable VPN for P2P is a big mistake.

Downloading BitLord is as simple as clicking on the “Get BitLord” button and saving the file to the hard drive on the computer.

Click on the download button, and a popup will ask you which version you want, free or paid. Choose the free version on the right-hand side.

For ease of download, we think BitLord is the easiest option as the homepage is clear and simple, with the download link easy to find. uTorrent, on the other hand, is confusing.

There are two versions, the web, and classic versions, but you have to scroll down to find the classic version, as shown in the lower half of the screenshot above.

BitLord is easier to download because it’s simple and clear.

Ease of installation

Now we will move on to how easy it is to install both torrent clients. BitLord vs uTorrent, which will come out on top?

When clicking on BitLord .exe file, a window will open up with tick boxes for the configuration.

Click next to proceed with the installation, and the following dialogue box appears.

Untick the box that asks if you want to install Opera browser and then click the “Decline” button to continue the installation of BitLord.

The installation will continue. In our case, when installing for the sake of this review, the installation hung for around one minute at 97% before continuing.

Double click on the uTorrent .exe, and a dialogue box will be displayed.

Then choose next, and the following dialogue box will open, giving a warning:

Simply click on the “Next” button to continue with the installation. Review the terms and conditions and then click on “Agree” to continue the installation.

Care has to be taken from here on in, as this is when the irrelevant offers begin to pop up:

On the dialogue box, untick “install Opera Browser,” then click “Next.”

If you click “Cancel,” the installation of the torrent client will abort.

Continue with the installation by clicking the “Next” buttons, and you will see the configuration box.

Click “Next,” and the software will install very quickly.

uTorrent is the most difficult to install because there are more “Offers” to be wary of during installation, but it does install faster than BitLord.

BitLord is much easier to install than uTorrent.

Design and interface

The design of the interface of BitLord is full-on with plenty to see, though confusing at first if you have not used a torrent client before.

The interface offers a search bar along the top and a search bar on the left-hand side, with torrents and playlists showing in the left-hand column.

The software opens by showing the top list of torrents available for download.

If you want to search for a particular torrent, do so in the left-hand search box (see screenshot below), as this reveals torrents available for download.

If you want to download a torrent file, simply click on its name to expand and then choose “Download torrent.”

We found it was feasible to browse torrents by choosing from the categories listed at the top.

uTorrent has a clean-looking white interface, but it does not provide as much information as BitLord in the interface.

It lacks the option for searching for torrents in the interface and does not provide a list of the most popular torrents.

In the left-hand column are options showing torrents you have in the program. That’s labels of torrents, the ability to upgrade to the pro version, and devices.

In the top half of the interface, there is a button suggesting visiting BitTorrent Now to get torrents. However, on clicking it, a web page opens.

Clicking on “Get more torrents” takes you to a website for additional downloads.

The bottom half of the main interface provides information about torrents that are downloading.

BitLord is free to use with no paid plans available, whereas uTorrent has a pro plan for $19.95 per year along with other paid choices.

The differences in the pro version include:

There is no Android version of BitLord, so we will just review the uTorrent version for Android.

uTorrent for Android is easy to download from the Google Play Store, and it’s been downloaded by millions of Android users. The app has received mixed reviews and issues.

One of the biggest issues users reported is ads. Ads pop up around 50% of the time in the app, which can be annoying. Another downside some users have reported is the app being slow to download; torrents only reach around 1kb despite the fact there are countless seeds available.

However, this is not something we came across during our comparison. Users have reported that to enjoy faster speed, the pro version is required. Again this was not an issue when we were downloading a test file.

Some users reported files have downloaded to 30% or 40% then drop off drastically or don’t finish at all. While everyone wants the transfer to finish fast, there is no known way to reach this goal.

Occasionally files are re-downloaded that have already been downloaded, and the software often crashes when left overnight to download. We cannot prove or disprove this.

Due to the sheer number of ratings and reviews, uTorrent wins hands down.

Speed test

Now onto the all-important speed test in the battle of BitLord vs uTorrent.

First, we tested the download speed in BitLord before doing the same in uTorrent. We downloaded the same torrent file, 307 MB in size, in both clients with a broadband connection, with the speed test results below.

The file was downloaded fast in BitLord with good speed from start to finish.

The average download speed was 16.5 MB/s, with not much variation above or below, downloading in around 12 seconds.

In uTorrent, the file was also downloaded with good speed, although it did take longer than in BitLord at around 34 seconds.

The average download speed was 4.9 Mb/s, with the file dropping off in speed around 45% before picking up towards the end.

We also tested the uTorrent download speed on Android, with the download speed being good, equaling on average speed around 6 MB/s.

As you can see from the results above, BitLord came out top in the speed test.

There was not much variation in the download speeds with BitLord, unlike uTorrent, which started high then towards the middle kept dropping down until it reached around 1.5 Mb/s before picking up again.

BitLord has much faster and more consistent speeds.

Now a drum roll, please, as we announce the winner of the BitLord vs uTorrent is…

We have taken all of the above into consideration and decided that we give the win to BitLord.

BitLord offers a more interesting and intuitive interface. We were able to search directly within the interface for the torrent. A click on the torrent allows for downloading straight from the interface. This is an aspect that uTorrent lacks, or if it does, we missed it.

BitLord also provides the chance to hide your identity via VPN software, which you do have to install separately. Speed tests were also impressive, downloading a 307 MB file in just 12 seconds.

In uTorrent, the only way we could see to add a torrent was to search outside the software to find the torrent, save it to the hard drive, and then add it into uTorrent via the menu. (see screenshot below).

To use VPN in uTorrent, you have to buy a yearly subscription for $69.95 per year. Luckily, you can also use a separate VPN that’s way better.

uTorrent does have an Android version, while BitLord does not, but this was not enough to persuade us to choose uTorrent over BitLord.
