How to cancel NordVPN and get a refund

How to cancel NordVPN and get a refund

If you’ve purchased a subscription and want to cancel NordVPN or get a refund, you’ll need to know a few important things.

Ever since NordVPN eliminated their free trial, users have had to take extra steps to cancel or refund their purchase. Luckily, they’re pretty straightforward, with just a few exceptions.

In today’s guide, we’ll show you how to cancel your NordVPN subscription with and without a refund, and go over some of the reasons you may not qualify for a refund.

How to cancel NordVPN and get a refund

Luckily for you, requesting a NordVPN refund is not rocket science. All you need to do is contact their support. Although you’re not obliged to provide a reason for your cancellation, the support agent may inquire about any technical issues you may have had.

Quick step-by-step guide on how to cancel your NordVPN account and get a refund:

  1. Open nordvpn.com and sign in to your account
  2. At the bottom of the accounts page, click Cancel automatic payments
  3. Choose the reason why are you canceling and press Confirm cancellation
  4. Click the Support button on the bottom-right corner
  5. Choose either Email or Live chat support
  6. Inform them about your request for refund

You should get your refund within two business days.

How to stop NordVPN subscription

In order for NordVPN to pause or cancel your subscription plan, you’ll have to log into your account on the NordVPN website. To do this, simply click on the My Account button at the top right-hand corner of their homepage.

nordvpn home page window

When you navigate to the Private and secure Internet access (VPN) section of the My Services page, you will see a button with three dots next to the Change Plan button. Clicking this button will bring up another button which will allow you to cancel automatic payments.

NordPVN My Services overview - cancel automatic payments

A confirmation dialogue will open and ask you if you really want to cancel your subscription. If you’re serious about canceling, hit yes.

It’s really that simple, you shouldn’t run into too many problems canceling your payment. The automatic payments will stop, and your subscription will run out, but sometimes it’s not as simple as making NordVPN cancel your plan. If you cancel your subscription in the middle of a billing cycle and you want a refund, or if you’re dissatisfied with the service as a first-time buyer, you will probably want your money back. In order to do this, you must request a refund from NordVPN’s customer service, which we discuss below.

NordVPN refund policy

NordVPN refund is tied to their 30-day money-back guarantee. Basically, what this means is that you will have to get the subscription and request a refund within 30 days.

However, requesting a refund within that time won’t guarantee that you’ll get a refund. There are certain conditions that you have to meet, and we’ll go over those below.

Who is eligible for the NordVPN refund?

First and foremost, to get a full NordVPN refund, you need to be eligible for it. The “no questions asked” 100% money-back guarantee doesn’t mean you can apply for it any time and under any condition.

The first condition is to do it within 30 days from purchase. However, even if you’re good with deadlines, you may still lose your eligibility due to other factors.

Cryptocurrency refund

Since VPN services are all about anonymity and privacy, you may wonder what happens if you pay with cryptocurrency.

While you may not get lucky with many competitors on this front, NordVPN does refund purchases made via cryptocurrency. You’ll receive the equivalent USD amount in the same cryptocurrency.

5 reasons why you may not get your NordVPN refund

1. You purchased a subscription via iTunes or App Store

If you purchase your NordVPN subscription in the iTunes or App Store, NordVPN cannot grant you a refund. You’ll be subject to the Apple iTunes or App Store refund policies. Therefore, you’ll have to contact their support to ask for your refund.

2. You purchased a subscription via resellers

NordVPN also cannot refund any purchase made from resellers, including Amazon, BestBuy, StackSocial, etc.

3. You purchased NordVPN using prepaid cards or gift cards

Neither prepaid cards nor gift cards can be refunded. Keep that in mind when buying NordVPN.

4. You canceled your account

If you cancel your (recurring) subscription before it expires or renews, you won’t get a refund for the unused part of your current service period.

5. You violated their Terms of Service

There’s no NordVPN refund for accounts that have been terminated for the violation of the Terms of Service.

Bottom line

While there are many reasons why you’d want to cancel NordVPN or get a refund, luckily there are only a few simple steps you’d need to take to get the job done.

Of course, if you stay on the good side of Nord’s Terms of Service and don’t partake in anything cybercrime-related, you’ll be able to get your refund in just a few days.

As of 02/04/2022 I could not stop autopay or cancel my Nord account!

The steps outlined here do not show on my Nord Account page!

There is no customer service phone number.

A stab in the dark email of [email protected] has not worked so far.

    Help…

Hello, David. Sorry to hear about your issue. As I understand, you can’t see Cancel Automatic Payments option? I suggest contacting customer support via 24/7 live chat. This way your problem will be solved in no time. Good luck!

Maybe nord is good on Windows but I have no windows.I have a media system with AMD A10 & MXLinux. @ laptops are used more often, both are old Thinkpad T530 Lappy son MXLinux. All 3 have Nord issues every week, usually twice each week. Strangely, now this system is online but “nordvpn status” command does not finish. Usually, computer is offline when this happens & cure is “nordvpn set killswitch 0”, Uninstall nord, reboot, be online, install again, set killswitch & obfuscate on again. Then in a few days it fails again.

I swapped emails with Nord support for over a month with no more than I got from nord faqs in way of help. Having paid 1 full year & being over 30 days, refund is repeatedly refused. We watched to movies last night, today nordvpn has failed again.

I wish I had not used support past 30 days & had not paid a full year.

Hi Eric! To be honest, my experience with NordVPN on Linux is limited, though I sympathize with you having to deal with this frustrating issue. Have you tried contacting NordVPN via 24/7 live chat? Maybe it would help solve the matter faster? Good luck and let us know how it ended!

If theres no logs and they dont track you, how can they refuse a refund for cybercrime related breach of t&c?

Hello, not @ here! NordVPN, like any other no-logs service, has almost no way to see if the user does anything illegal. The lengthy section in their Terms of Service is more of a legal safeguard against highly unlikely scenarios. In fact, most VPNs have this covered, even though they have no means to detect any wrongdoings.

It’s too bad Nord doesn’t have a 30 day trial or something so I can see how they well they work. I like to be able to test my services beforehand. Their cancellation policy seems to be ok and from what I’ve heard you can get a nordvpn refund pretty quickly. It’s just that I would have loved to be able to have a free trial, even if it was for just a few days. I know this is a known VPN which is probably why they aren’t offering a free trial anymore, but it would have been nice to get 3 day trial or something. I also find it nice that they refund you if you paid in crypto, I know of others that don’t do this.

It’s hard for me to imagine wanting to drop NordVPN. It tops the list for so many needs and countries! Still, the market is rapidly changing, and this is good information to have.

I used NordVPN for a few days and decided to cancel the service, I logged in to the website and went through the steps as you list here. After confirming that I really wanted to “Cancel Automatic Payments”, the page reloaded and a green marker at the top of the page showed that my automatic payment had been canceled. Easy as pie!

Thanks for the guide. I’m thinking about cancelling my NordVPN subscription and I wasn’t sure how to do it. I think I’ll go to ExpressVPN, I’ve heard it’s the best and I want to try it out.

I almost signed up with NordVPN but I went with a different service. I didn’t think much about what would happen if I wanted to cancel after the trial period. I’m happy with my current VPN, but I’ll have to look at the terms of service to see what the details are just in case…

Thanks for your opinion!
