IPVanish vs VyprVPN

It can be challenging to choose between two similar products. This conundrum is common when picking a virtual private network since many providers offer similar features. That’s why it’s paramount to dive deep and analyze available services through a magnifying glass.

In this article, I’ll be comparing IPVanish vs VyprVPN. The two are frequently touted as great options in numerous scenarios. But what exactly sets them apart? To find out, I’ll pit them against each other in various categories, such as speed, streaming, device compatibility, and more. After that, a quick conclusion with a definitive winner.

IPVanish vs VyprVPN: specifications

IPVanish comes with a big server range, wallet-friendly pricing options, and unlimited simultaneous connections. You essentially get more perks, and benefit from a great streaming & torrenting experience. While VyprVPN is equal, and in some cases better, in certain categories, it can’t live up to IPVanish’s robustness.

IPVanish vs VyprVPN: pricing

One month $12.99/month $10.00/month
One year $3.33/month $5.00/month

Payment options Credit card, PayPal, Google Pay, Amazon Pay Credit/debit card, PayPal

One of the essential factors for choosing a VPN provider is pricing. Luckily, both IPVanish and VyprVPN are affordable. However, IPVanish gets the first point as it is slightly more affordable. In terms of anonymous payments, both VPNs lack this possibility.

IPVanish pricing

IPVanish is notorious for constantly changing its pricing structure. Currently, the available options are as follows:

In the past, IPVanish had plans with bonus cloud storage and antivirus protection capabilities. It appears that they’re no longer available. Instead, new users gain access to VIPRE Antivirus on the annual plan.

IPVanish pricing

The most sure-fire way to get the best deal when buying this VPN is by utilizing an IPVanish coupon code. It can grant you discounts up to 83% off. Furthermore, payment methods include credit cards and PayPal.

VyprVPN pricing

VyprVPN was known as one of the cheapest VPN providers before changing its pricing. Nowadays, customers can choose between two options:

The monthly plan costs full-price, while the yearly option grants a 50% discount. You can ensure that you’re getting the best possible deal by using a VyprVPN discount code. Furthermore, payment can be conducted via Credit Card, PayPal, or UnionPay.

VyprVPN prices (December 2021)

If you’re a large company, you may be interested in VyprVPN’s business plans. Pricing is more difficult to define since the final cost depends on implementation and the company’s size.

Speed comparison

Both providers are adequately equipped to facilitate lightning-fast VPN connections. Users of either service can enable the swift and modern WireGuard tunneling protocol. Alternative options are also available with OpenVPN and IKEv2 protocols.

However, IPVanish has slightly better speeds because of its 2200+ servers and works well on long-distance connections. Unfortunately, VyprVPN has quite fewer servers, 700+, and doesn’t perform the best over long distances.

Therefore the winner of this round is IPVanish.

VyprVPN vs IPVanish: which is more secure?

IPVanish VyprVPN
Encryption AES-256 AES-256
Jurisdiction US Switzerland
Logging Independently-audited no-logs Independently-audited no-logs
Kill switch Yes Yes
Leak protection DNS, IPv6, WebRTC DNS, IPv6, WebRTC
RAM servers None None

The next section of our VyprVPN vs. IPVanish comparison is security. And VyprVPN wins this round. But before we go into more detail, let’s check out their common security features.

Like any worthwhile premium VPN, VyprVPN and IPVanish have a solid security foundation. For starters, both utilize AES-256 encryption to keep your web communications undecipherable and private. Additionally, a VPN kill switch is available to prevent IP address exposure. Unsurprisingly, there are no DNS leaks when the VPN connection is enabled.

While the providers are virtually the same in this case, IPVanish has the slight disadvantage of being based in the US. The independently-audited no-logs policy should be enough to negate this, if only the service hadn’t cooperated with the FBI once in the past.

Privacy

Confidentiality enthusiasts will be quick to point out that VyprVPN is superior to IPVanish in many regards. For starters, VyprVPN is located in Switzerland, a country that respects individual liberties and freedom of speech. Meanwhile, IPVanish is based in the United States, a founding member of the Five Eyes alliance.

The audited no-logs policy puts most users at rest, but we’d still like to see a switch to RAM-only servers.

Logging

Although IPVanish is located in the USA, it still has an audited no-logs policy. This ensures people that it won’t endanger their personal data. VyprVPN also has an independently-audited no-logs policy, which only enhances people’s trust.

Servers location

Server specification IPVanish VyprVPN
Servers 2200+ 700+
Countries 51+ 64+
All physical servers No Yes
Owns all servers Yes Yes

The providers are above average in terms of server coverage. IPVanish has 2200+ servers in 51+ countries. Although some servers are virtual, the entire fleet is operated without third-party hardware providers.

On the other hand, VyprVPN runs a network of 700+ servers in 64+ countries. While smaller, it’s 100% physical and doesn’t utilize virtual server locations.

Similarly, the Swiss-based provider controls the hardware side without relying on outsourced data centers. The only downside with IPVanish and VyprVPN is the absence of RAM-only servers for improved privacy. Still, if you want uncongested servers, go with IPVanish.

Features comparison

Features IPVanish VyprVPN
Smart DNS ❌No ❌No
Ad & tracker blocker ❌No ✅Yes
Split tunneling ✅Yes (Android, FireOS) ✅Yes
Specialized servers ✅Yes ✅Yes

Features are a crucial part of every VPN as they only enhance its performance. The winner of this round of our IPVanish vs. VyprVPN comparison is IPVanish. Let’s see why.

Smart DNS

If you’re searching for a VPN for streaming, then you need to find one with a Smart DNS feature. It allows you to bypass geo-blocks on devices that don’t support VPN usage. Which is usually streaming peripherals.

Unfortunately, both IPVanish and VyprVPN lack this feature, leaving you only with the possibility of streaming on devices that work with a VPN provider.

Ad & malware blocker

The ad & malware blocker feature restricts suspicious and malware links, ads, and websites from interfering with your data.

However, only VyprVPN has an ad & malware blocker feature called Malicious Site Blocker. IPVanish, unfortunately, doesn’t offer such a feature.

Split tunneling

The split tunneling feature helps the VPN work better and avoid overwhelming it. More precisely, you can choose which apps to use the VPN and which not to. This reduces the pressure of the VPN and provides you with better connections.

Luckily, you will benefit from this feature no matter whether you opt for VyprVPN or IPVanish.

Obfuscated servers

Obfuscated servers are a must for a secure and anonymous experience. In other words, obfuscated servers present the VPN traffic as a regular browsing one.

Both IPVanish and VyprVPN have obfuscated servers, enabling you an additional layer of protection. As such, you can use these services in regions where VPN software is usually blocked or highly regulated.

Other features

Only IPVanish comes with extra perks such as a free VIPRE antivirus, a SOCKS5 proxy, and encrypted storage (but only for longtime subscribers).

Netflix and streaming comparison

Streaming platforms IPVanish VyprVPN
Netflix US ✅Yes ✅Yes
Other Netflix libraries ✅Yes ✅Yes
Amazon Prime Video ✅Yes ✅Yes
Hulu ✅Yes ❌No
HBO Max ✅Yes ✅Yes
Disney+ ✅Yes ✅Yes
BBC iPlayer ✅Yes ✅Yes
YouTube TV ✅Yes ✅Yes

Both IPVanish and VyprVPN have all the essential criteria to perform well when streaming video content. Firstly, WireGuard is available for breakneck connection speed and zero buffering while watching content in UHD. Meanwhile, the wide selection of servers ensures plenty of IP address options for accessing foreign movies and TV shows.

IPVanish unblocking Netflix

Unsurprisingly, geo-unblocking on Netflix and other platforms wasn’t flawless all the time and required hopping around between servers. Plus, there’s no Smart DNS option with either if you want a VPN that’s compatible with an exceptional variety of devices. If that’s a priority, we recommend perusing our list of best VPNs for streaming.

Device compatibility

Device support IPVanish VyprVPN
Major dedicated apps Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android Windows, macOS, iOS, Android
Other dedicated apps Amazon Fire TV Stick, Android TV, ChromeOS Router applet
Browser extensions Chrome
Manual setup Routers, firewall, NAS Linux, Kodi, Apple TV, Roku
Simultaneous devices Unlimited 30

The pendulum swings to a stalemate in this category. The main benefit of the IPVanish is that it permits unlimited simultaneous connections with one account.

Meanwhile, one VyprVPN subscription grants security for 30 simultaneous devices, which is quite a lot. Another key difference is that VyprVPN has a dedicated app for routers. Of course, you can still configure routers manually with a VPN with either provider. Besides that, the two VPNs are practically on par with each other regarding device compatibility.

Desktop applications

IPVanish and VyprVPN both have applications for Windows and macOS. Both providers take good care to make their clients user friendly and easy to navigate, no matter which OS you’re using. Furthermore, the apps are secure across the board.

IPVanish kill switch

IPVanish offers identical apps for each operating system. However, we have to note that the macOS client has less customization. For example, the PPTP and SSTP protocols are missing from the tunneling protocol selection list.

VyprVPN for Mac Customize menu

Meanwhile, VyprVPN surprised us by having a more feature-rich macOS client. For example, split tunneling is readily available, and you’ll even find the Malicious Site Blocker tool here.

Mobile applications

The competitors also have Android and iOS mobile apps. Besides the similar designs to their desktop counterparts, we mostly saw differences when it comes to features.

IPVanish Android settings

IPVanish keeps everything up-to-notch with the Android version, but, unfortunately, the iOS client lacks split tunneling. And what’s worse, there’s no kill switch, either.

VyprVPN for iOS - Customize menu

VyprVPN didn’t stick to the same logic as they did with the desktop applications. Android gets the better features this time, namely, the Malicious Site Blocker and split tunneling. But the IKEv2 protocol is only found on iOS, which makes sense.

Torrenting

P2P specifications IPVanish VyprVPN
Allowed on ✅All servers ✅All servers
Free SOCKS5 proxy ✅Yes ❌No
Split tunneling ✅Yes (Android and FireOS) ✅Yes (Android, macOS)

IPVanish inches slightly ahead VyprVPN in the torrenting category, but both VPNs are pretty solid options. Most importantly, neither one restricts P2P traffic, and users are free to partake in the activity regardless of server location.

However, IPVanish customers have more security options since the VPN has a SOCKS5 proxy. With it, they can set up the torrent client and hide their IP addresses without enabling encryption. Additionally, split tunneling is available on Android and FireOS devices, while with VyprVPN, it’s only accessible on Android and macOS devices. Of course, the feature would be ideal on desktop computers.

Lastly, neither provider grants the port forwarding ability. If that’s what you’re looking for, consider checking our top VPN for torrenting options.

China

Specifications IPVanish VyprVPN
Works in China ❌No ✅Yes
Stealth VPN ✅Yes(Traffic Obfuscation) ✅Yes (Chameleon)
Tor over VPN ❌No ❌No

Authoritarian and surveillance states like China heavily restrict VPN usage since it grants the ability to circumvent censorship. Such governments and VPN providers are in a constant tug of war against each other.

And VyprVPN and IPVanish are excellent VPNs for China. It has the necessary VPN masking features critical for circumventing the Great Firewall. Of course, there’s no 100% guarantee that everything will work without hiccups as the situation in China is constantly changing. Your best option is to do some research before traveling there and downloading the VPN apps in advance.

Customer support

Support options IPVanish VyprVPN
24/7 live chat ✅Yes ✅Yes
Phone Line ✅Yes ❌No
Email  ✅Yes ✅Yes
Knowledgebase ✅Yes ✅Yes

Customer support is an important but often overlooked aspect of VPNs. It’s easy to forget about it when everything is going smoothly. However, flaws become pretty apparent when you require urgent assistance.

Both VPNs provide the essential 24/7 live chat option for quick problem-solving. However, IPVanish goes a step further and offers a phone line available in certain regions. Customers may have different preferences for assistance, so it’s good to see customer service variety.

Thanks for listing the various pros and cons of IPVanish and VyprVPN. I have to agree that you get what you pay for but in some cases you are paying for something you don’t need. My main concern is privacy so it doesn’t look like either of these VPN’s would work for me.

I’ve tried both option and I prefer VyprVPN by far. It’s faster and safer, with better customer care. IPVanish is not bad, but it’s nothing compared to VyprVPN.

VyprVPN sounds the best indeed. Too bad it’s not the best for torrenting, it really would have been a plus if it was torrenting ready. Thanks for the comparison though, it definitely helps me see clearer.
