Keenow Review
There are plenty of solid VPNs. However, only a few make it to the top. Be sure to check them out too.
Some of the best VPNs out there don’t focus on streaming (Netflix, Hulu, and others) as a priority. Not Keenow VPN – this is where it shines.
Keenow is a VPN and SmartDNS service that focuses on unblocking streaming platforms, such as Netflix. It will also let you torrent to your heart’s content, but there’s not much in the way of security.
Is Keenow safe to use?
Keenow offers reliable industry-standard AES-256 encryption over the secure OpenVPN protocol. Security protocols are essentially the structure of the data tunnel that the VPN uses, so it’s important that the protocol used is widely supported and secure.
The VPN also a kill-switch (to prevent your identity from leaking if the VPN connection drops), and simple online tests showed no DNS leaks and other accidental expositions (including IPv6 leaks).
That’s unfortunately where the security features end. Most services offer a wider array of tunneling protocols to choose from. WireGuard is especially important for speed and security. Furthermore, split tunneling and port forwarding would provide some nice versatility to the app. Finally, some kind of obfuscation feature against DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) would work wonders for users in China and other censorship-heavy countries. So if you need more security and privacy features you should choose from our best overall VPNs instead, like NordVPN.
Speed
While it does rank somewhat towards the lesser end of connection speeds as compared to the most popular VPNs, the difference is not huge.
Easy setup: how to install it
The simplicity of the site and the low “sunk time” involved in getting the app up and running are factors that put points in Keenow’s favor.
Clicking a “Get Started” button on the main website leads you to a landing page that summarizes the points of each plan in a way that’s refreshingly free from complexity and confusion.
You enter your email and get a securely generated password and a download link to the app. From there on, it’s smooth sailing.
Apps and extensions
The apps are available over pretty much all platforms:
- Windows
- Mac
- iOS (iPhone and iPad)
- Android (including Android TV)
- Amazon Fire
What’s more, our Keenow review team was easily able to set the VPN up on a router device. This protects the entire network through one simple solution.
Coupled with the fact that Keenow doesn’t have a limit on the number of simultaneous connections anyway and offers either in-built support or detailed and easy-to-follow guides on their website for almost all platforms imaginable, it takes the cake in terms of sheer accessibility.
It’s important to note that the iOS and Android versions have different security protocols than the Windows or Mac software. On an iPhone, for example, you’d need to install the OpenVPN app separately if you wanted to use this protocol.
Keenow for Netflix
As previously mentioned, what Keenow does best and works hardest at is catering to users who want to stream.
The Smart DNS technology makes it such that the requests sent or received by a Website such as Netflix, Hulu, or Kodi are handled by Keenow.
The decent connection speeds make Keenow pretty good for streaming. Whether you use it for Kodi, Netflix, or Amazon Prime, it will bring you satisfactory results.
As of now, Keenow supports around 18 countries’ worth of Netflix content, different for each region. This is a treasure trove for any Netflix user.
Keenow for torrenting
Keenow Unblocker allows torrenting on 17 servers, which is a decent amount and provides good coverage. Plus, it does ensure that you can use Keenow as an all-around VPN, one that’ll accommodate all your needs.
Is it good for users in China?
Ironically, what makes Keenow good is what makes it harder to benefit users in China, what with reports of the OpenVPN protocol being blocked by their firewall.
Even if you could connect from China, Keenow isn’t the most secure VPN service in the world, so we would caution against using it.
Customer Support
Keenow customer support options include:
- Support tickets
- FAQ
- Troubleshooting wizard
No live support is definitely a negative in this day and age, but to compensate the site has built a Troubleshooting Wizard and a comprehensive FAQ with extensive guides.
There’s even a Server Status page and a Network Monitoring one, meaning the team is on top of the situation and highly transparent in backing up their claims of reliable uptime. Overall, our Keenow review team found the customer support experience satisfactory.
Pricing
Keenow offers the following payment plans:
- 1-month plan for unlimited devices – $9.95
- 6-month plan for unlimited devices – $41.70 ($6.95)
- 1-year plan for unlimited devices – $69.50 ($5.79/month)
There’s a 30-day money back guarantee, but otherwise the price is fairly high considering the product.
At least the service offers an anonymous payment method – Bitcoin.
Bottom Line
To summarize this Keenow review, Keenow is the best at being an unblocker, but it’s definitely nothing to write home about. There are many better VPNs out there at lower prices.
