WASEL Pro VPN Review
No matter how much you’re into WASEL Pro VPN, there more than a few that are considerably better. Don’t miss out on them!
WASEL Pro VPN is a service that aims to be truly global, both in providing quality and speedy access to their servers, and helping people unblock content and resources wherever they are.
Based in the Netherlands (a country that’s a part of the Nine Eyes alliance, dedicated to collecting and monitoring the data of their citizens), WASEL Pro seems to cater to residents of countries with rampant online censorship.
The prices aren’t shocking, neither in a bad or good way, but given their rather lax and vague Privacy Policy, you wouldn’t be forgiven for wanting more security and peace of mind out of the service.
WASEL Pro VPN is not a great choice for surveillance-wary folk. Check our no-logs VPNs list for providers that don’t collect user data. The best service is NordVPN with a certified zero-logs policy.
Security and privacy
WASEL Pro VPN brings the following security features to the table.
- Unbreakable AES-256-bit encryption
- OpenVPN via SSH
- Kill switch
- DNS leak protection
- ShadowSocks proxy to get around the digital roadblocks placed by a restrictive regime
This is a rather comprehensive security and privacy package.
WASEL Pro VPN uses OpenVPN, tunneled through SSH (secure shell). This means that in a place where an OpenVPN connection would be detected and banned – as are reports of happening in the Middle East, Singapore, and China – WASEL Pro would pass by the filters undetected.
The advanced settings also allow you to manually configure your OpenVPN driver type, port mode, and so on, but also offer a dropdown menu of common configurations.
However, WASEL Pro VPN also offers support for you to install L2TP/IPSec manually, in case that’s your preference. While it’s less safe than the OpenVPN protocol, iPhones have to have an OpenVPN app installed separately, so the L2TP option might come in handy there.
Another strong option is the ShadowSocks proxy. While it requires some manual work and leaves behind some privacy issues, it might be the best-case scenario in some places where the censorship is at peak level.
There’s also a kill-switch and DNS leak protection options in the software itself, along with VPN throttling protection. These are good features that go well with WASEL Pro’s focus on getting people to access what was previously inaccessible without getting into trouble.
Does WASEL Pro VPN log your data?
When connected to the WASEL Pro VPN, we found that sites had a hard time immediately pinning down the location of our IP address servers, even WASEL Pro’s own website. This is a good sign.
There does remain the issue of WASEL Pro’s Privacy Policy which seems to go against the no-logs policy by stating that your data could be used against you if required by law; this seems to imply the presence of logs, surely.
Speed and performance
WASEL Pro VPN claims that using their VPN can actually boost speeds through smart routing and using OpenVPN LZO compression, and we absolutely found this to be the case.
Interestingly – and perhaps, surprisingly – there was hardly any drop in Internet speed once connected to the VPN from our original 8 Mbps download and 0.5 Mbps upload speeds.
London, UK
- Download: 6 Mbps
- Upload: 0.5 Mbps
With the speeds we got after WASEL Pro VPN auto-selected a server, we were then able to use to stream high-quality videos, download torrents, and browse freely.
Overall, WASEL’s high speeds left us pleasantly surprised.
Ease of use and multi-platform support
WASEL Pro’s compatibility offerings are rather basic, but they get the job done:
- Windows
- macOS
- iOS
- Android
There’s no real extra-special custom app for, say, Kodi or Amazon Fire TV, neither is there any router support.
The functionality and design of WASEL Pro VPN are similar across almost all of its platforms, be it Windows, Mac, or Android. The VPN app itself is quite straightforward and easy to use.
Unblocking Netflix and other entertainment platforms
To our surprise, it only took us two tries to switch around the US servers, and we were streaming on high quality in Netflix in no time – perhaps even slightly speedier than we got on our own connection.
The high speeds and security combined with the fact that WASEL Pro isn’t a VPN that’s yet been hit with the Netflix ban on VPN usage makes it well worth the download and subscription.
P2P and torrenting
In a similar way to what makes WASEL Pro VPN good for Netflix is what makes WASEL Pro VPN great for torrents as well.
With a way to circumvent ISP throttling, WASEL Pro VPN also doesn’t ban P2P or BitTorrent traffic from any if its servers.
The fact that your IP address is also obfuscated in a swift and robust manner means that your torrent usage will also be harder to track back to you by a third-party.
Online censorship in China and elsewhere
As previously mentioned, WASEL Pro VPN focuses on providing unrestricted online access to places where the governments and ISPs collude and blacklist many-a websites and services. China is one of these countries.
In fact, one of the connection options on WASEL Pro VPN is ShadowSocks, a proxy designed specifically to bypass the Chinese authorities.
It’s ideal to have a VPN, such as WASEL Pro VPN, that is dedicated to such a thing, specifically. Otherwise, there might be issues not faced previously and factors not considered – in this case, it pays to pay for your VPN.
Customer support
WASEL Pro VPN offers the following support options to subscribers:
- Knowledge base
- FAQ section
- Help via TeamFinder
- 24/7 live chat support
You can find the live 24/7 support button right on their website. You can also connect via TeamFinder for unusual, specific issues that their team will then solve in real-time or via consultation with others.
However, of the different times we connected, we were treated to copy-paste answers that seemed to have been selected based on a misunderstanding of the question.
In a few cases, we were presented with non-answers and evasion of the questions, which is not a good look.
Additionally, the guides and FAQ on the website are also highly saturated with slightly irrelevant information as opposed to specific details about the product itself.
Pricing
Given WASEL Pro VPN’s features, it is again surprising that its price is what it is:
- 1-month plan for $9.99
- 3-month plan for $27.00 ($9.00/month)
- 6-month plan for $50.00 ($8.33/month)
- 1-year plan for $90.00 ($7.50/month)
While the yearly discount in itself isn’t great, 10 dollars is what you can expect to pay for a VPN that is to be reliable in keeping your speed consistent and uptime high.
In addition to this, WASEL Pro VPN accepts payments from all major debit/credit cards, but also via Western Union, PayPal, WebMoney, CASHU, OneCard, and an even larger number of services that you can find out more on through their website.
Bottom line
WASEL Pro VPN far exceeds expectations and brings something collectedly useful to the world of VPNs with a special focus on a freer, more secure Internet.
With an updated Privacy Policy and more transparent operations, WASEL Pro could go on to be one of the best.
For the time being, it’s an affordable solution to unblock whatever you need to be unblocked without having to add a new frustration to your plate in the form of a VPN you can’t get to work. WASEL Pro VPN is easy to use, quick in action and has all your needs covered.
